Recycling Program For Mac

'Back to Mac' is a plastic recycling initiative. They collect the plastics and pass it on to sub-contractors who take care of the recycling. You can toss away the outer packaging, it's the hard-plastic primary packaging, the containers and caps, that MAC has recycled. MacRecycleClinic offers Monday clinics for Mac users.

MacRecycleClinic's Mission: Refurbish, Recycle, Return

The MacRecycleClinic (MRC) is a 501(c)3 non- profit service organization in Silver Spring, Md. We refurbish and recycle newer (Intel-based Macintosh computers that can run at least OS 10.11.6) back into the community. We take iDevices like iPhones and iPads that you have disassociated from your iCloud account. We're also now taking non-networked Chromebooks with chargers!

To help the Macintosh Community, we hold a popular Monday night clinic (following MCPS schedule) (On hold due to the Coronavirus Pandemic).

In-warranty (and AppleCare) machines should be taken to Apple or a local Mac retailer for repairs.

Please make inquiries through the 'Contact Us' page (preferred) on this website, as it is the quickest way to get a response.

Our office number is 301-593-4004 – but we don't check the phone often since the pandemic is keeping us out of the office.

We have experience helping Mac users going back decades.

Our Roots

MacRecycleClinic has its roots in the old Tuesday Night Clinic offered for many years by Washington Apple Pi (Apple/Mac Users Group) when it had an office in Rockville, Md.

We are our own organization now but are deeply committed to refurbishing/recycling donated computers and helping Mac users get the most out of their machines.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Refurbishment of donated 2010+ Intel-based Macintosh computers and donation by referral to students, families, veterans in need and non-profit organizations;
  • Refurbished computers have a new Mac OS installed (appropriate to the machine) and software that will let the user surf the Internet, send and receive email, have access to business applications and more;
  • A student uses his refurbished Chromebook – learning how to type.

    NEW: We are now accepting your donation of non-networked Chromebook;Chromebooks are restored to factory specifications via PowerWashing or a new Chrome OS installed;

  • Recycling of all computer equipment that can't be refurbished for reuse;
  • Sale of refurbished Intel-based Macintosh computers and (if available) Chromebooks;
  • Diagnosis and repair of out-of-warranty Macintosh computers for a donation;
  • Support for Macintosh users who have questions or need minor instruction for a donation;
  • We do not teach classes or offer extended training services;
  • Support for owners of older Macs or Apple II or Apple /// computers or other Apple devices as possible.

Are you a PC owner?Phoenix Computers in Rockville offers similar services to PC users as MRC does for Mac users. Unfortunately, Capital PC Users Group's Project Reboot has discontinued its services to the community.

iPad and iPhone

Looking for the best way to recycle your used Apple iPhone, iPad, iMac Desktop, Mac Pro, Apple Watch and MacBook Laptop? SellYourMac is here as an Apple recycle solution. We strive to contribute to 'Go Green' initiatives that help ensure a sustainable environment for the present and future. We will recycle your old computer or other electronic device free with your purchase. You can feel better about doing your part to make the world a better place!

Did you know?

When your Apple product is no longer the shiny new device you once loved, it's best to dispose of them in the right way. States like Washington, Oregon, Texas, Maryland, Minnesota, California, and Maine have laws in place that guide how individuals can dispose of their unwanted electronic devices. In others, however, you can still throw your electronic gadgets in the trash leading to various environmental issues.

  • Batteries contain heavy metals that can leach from solid waste landfills into the soil, groundwater, and surface water
  • Dry cell batteries contribute 88% of the total mercury and 50% of the cadmium in the municipal solid waste stream
  • Batteries contain strong corrosive acids that can burn your eyes and skin

Just transitioning from PC to Apple can help alleviate some of these issues: Apple uses smaller, thinner and lighter materials to produce their products. For instance, the MacBook Pro features an innovative unibody design, which replaces dozens of parts with a single piece of recyclable aluminium. From the glass, plastic, metal, paper and ink, Apple considers the environmental impact in all aspects of their production process.

Efficient packaging helps Apple pack more computers in every shipment, which in turn reduces overall emissions. Packaging for the 13' MacBook Pro is 41% smaller than the previous generation MacBook. This frees space on every shipping pallet, which means more computers are shipped on each plane and truck. Shortcut for degree symbol on a mac keyboard.

Apple spends time designing software and hardware that maximizes power management and efficiency in every product. A Mac mini uses as little as a quarter of the power consumed by a standard 60W light bulb. This makes it the most energy-efficient desktop computer in the world!

All Apple facilities use energy-efficient lighting and feature motion sensors for automatic light shutoff. This has saved over two million kilowatt-hours of electricity since 2006. Many of their facilities use renewable energy and Apple plans to have their Elk Grove facility operating entirely on renewable energy by the end of 2009. Employees are provided alternative transportation options. Each day, up to six hundred employees ride their free bio-diesel commuter coaches.
